We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Instrumentation and Controls Designer/Technologist to join our team. As an Instrumentation and Controls Designer/Technologist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing instrumentation and control systems and components for various projects. Your role will involve collaborating with engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure that the instrumentation and controls systems meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project teams, engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives.
- Develop instrumentation and automated valve designs, including instrument and automated valve lists, layout drawings, installation details, loop wiring diagrams, and cable lists.
- Develop control system designs, including I/O lists, panel layout drawings, wiring diagrams, motor controls, and network diagrams.
- Prepare and review technical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD.
- Review vendor documentation to integrate vendor equipment into the instrumentation and controls design.
- Assist in the development of P&IDs.
- Assist in the preparation of project cost estimates and proposals.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues and provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and startup.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing instrumentation and control system installations and to support installation, commissioning, and startup.
- Attend equipment factory acceptance tests.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to instrumentation and controls design and implementation.
- Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience working as an Instrumentation and Controls Designer/Technologist or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and controls design principles, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for instrumentation and controls design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Solid understanding of instrumentation and controls equipment, components, and materials used in industrial and mining applications.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with electrical design will be considered a strong asset, particularly in projects where integrated instrumentation and control and electrical systems coordination is critical.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Engineering Technologist) are desirable but not mandatory.
