Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Camp Program Assistant is a key team member for pre-planning the content for THEMUSEUMs STEAM-themed Summer Day Camp programs, and for ensuring camp content delivery goes smoothly and adjusts to the needs of participating campers. Camp Program Assistants research themes, create scripts/lessons, facilitate connections between activities and THEMUSEUMs exhibitions, source needed materials, and assist with administrative tasks and scheduling. When camp is in session, the Camp Program Assistant directly supervises the Camp Leaders, assists with coverage for breaks, and facilitates a fun, educational and valuable day camp experience for all campers by ensuring all daily activities are fully equipped and have adequate supervision.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES include:
Researching, developing and scheduling new content and activities for Camp sessions
Assisting with administrative tasks such as management of confidential camper information, registrations, and parent/guardian emails through our online Camp registration portal, CampBrain.
Ensure the care, safety, and security of campers
Signing campers in and out of their daily sessions
Building and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for campers and staff
Building a library of lessons, crafts and games for reference
Organizing activities/games in advance to keep campers engaged
Monitoring and replenishing consumables
Training camp staff in behaviour and classroom management strategies
Teaching other camp leaders and campers a variety of educational concepts/activities
Engaging in interactive, supervised play with campers during off/on-site activities
Enacting disciplinary actions when needed, including verbal and written communication with camp parents and guardians.

This role is being funded by Canada Summer Jobs, and the following requirements must be met to be eligible:
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The applicant may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Applicants awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
SKILLS:
Experience leading camp activities with children and youth such as games, songs, crafts, etc.
Passion for working with and educating children
Experience in behaviour and classroom management
Experience working in a customer service environment
Experience delivering oral presentations and communication
Demonstrate time management, leadership and communication skills
Ability to enthusiastically present accurate, engaging and age-appropriate programming
Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/skills in one or more of the following areas: S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), Education, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure, and/or Museum Studies.
First Aid/CPR (can be obtained after hiring)
A valid police background check (Vulnerable Sector)
Aged 18 years or older at the start of Summer Camp
Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
Must be able to spend the majority (>60%) of the day standing and walking with the campers, and be able to lift at least 40 lbs
