Job Overview
We are seeking a Technical Lead for Engineering HSE CAPEX to play a key role in identifying, managing, and mitigating Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) risks associated with large-scale capital investment projects. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a standard 37.5-hour work week, with eligibility for overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert for large-scale capital investment projects (ranging from $1M to $10M) by providing leadership during the concept/design stage, implementation, and start-up phases. Ensure all projects are executed with the highest levels of efficiency, quality, and employee safety.
- Ensure successful execution and implementation of projects by meeting success criteria in technical solutions, scope, project timelines, and capital budgets.
- Manage and collaborate with external contractors, vendors, and suppliers to deliver program initiatives, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), dust control, ovens, PIV systems, HAC, and security.
- Review and approve Electrical and Control Systems solutions for project execution.
- Lead change management activities, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to maintain transparency, alignment, and effective communication throughout project lifecycle.
- Hold vendors, suppliers, and contractors accountable to ensure seamless project handovers.
- Support competence and skill development for asset handover, technology transfer, and training on new initiatives.
- Work alongside the Health & Safety Manager to create project update reports, dashboards, and presentations to track project budgets and outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of new processes, procedures, and systems within the organization to ensure compliance with HSE program standards.
Recipe for Success
- University degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a project management role within a manufacturing or supply chain environment.
- At least 3 years of experience working with PLC/HMI, control systems, network instrumentation, and automation.
- Familiarity with the CSA Electrical Code and Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
- Experience with food processing manufacturing and high-speed packaging, particularly in Bakery Manufacturing, including related techniques and systems.
- Knowledge of power distribution, electrical safety, and sanitary design procedures.
- Expertise in LOTO, machine guarding, and hazard mitigation techniques for process and packaging equipment.
- Proficiency in reading P&ID, electrical diagrams, and other technical schematics.
- Strong skills in financial calculations, budget creation, and management.
- In-depth understanding of building infrastructure engineering standards, government regulations (e.g., OHSA), and relevant industry regulations (NFPA, CSA, ISO, ANSI, ESA).
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office, MS Projects, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
