Ekona Power is a Vancouver-based climate technology company developing a novel methane pyrolysis platform for low-cost, clean hydrogen and carbon black production. Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will focus on industrial plant design, from conception through to plant start up for Ekonas methane pyrolysis process. This role is ideal for someone with years of experience in designing as well as operating/commissioning industrial process plants who is interested in developing the first of its kind industrial plant. You are an outside of the box thinker and are motivated by the thought of doing something that has not been done before.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead DBM, pre-FEED and FEED project studies.
- Develop solutions for hydrogen, oxygen, or related gas services.
- Review designs produced by 3rd party vendors or EPCs.
- Aid in the development of plant layout and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Prepare equipment data sheets and specifications and vendor inquiries
- Support the design and registration of mechanical equipment.
- Guide designers to complete 3D layout of methane pyrolysis plants.
- Monitor and report on progress, and schedule.
- Participate in HAZOP.
- Follow safe work procedures.
- Other relevant duties.
You Bring:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering with P.Eng designation in BC and/or Alberta.
- 15-25 years progressive experience as a mechanical engineer with industrial process plant design experience.
- Experience with very high temperature processes. Experience with combustion equipment, heat recovery and air pollution control equipment.
- Exposure to a related industry such as gas processing, hydrogen, refineries, natural gas, carbon solids, etc.
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes, regulations, and standards for various jurisdictions.
- Ability to interpret and provide direction on P&IDs, PFDs and plant layouts.
- Ability to design pressure vessels, preferably including for cyclic pressure service.
- Ability to perform or guide piping design including stress analysis.
- Commissioning and operations industrial expertise.
- Working knowledge of industry standard 3D modelling software.
- Experience with high temperature metallurgy and refractory.
- Additional experience with industrial equipment such as compressors, cooling systems, heat exchangers, separation units and pressure vessels.
- Ability to travel in Canada and Internationally for work when required.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Able to work out of our Burnaby office, at least 3 days/week.
