We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a tunnel construction project in Toronto, where you'll ensure the reliability and safety of critical mechanical systems.
Job Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer (ME) with MGR Workforce, you'll work under the Tunnel Plant Manager to oversee the lifecycle of mechanical equipment in a tunnel construction project. From implementing safe systems to managing maintenance and troubleshooting, you'll keep machinery—like TBMs—running smoothly, minimizing downtime, and driving project success through technical expertise and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement safe work systems and issue permits for mechanical operations.
- Develop and oversee maintenance plans for all mechanical equipment.
- Maintain TBMs and related machinery (including electrical components) per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
- Plan and schedule maintenance to align with tunnel production timelines.
- Manage spare parts inventory to ensure efficient equipment upkeep.
- Conduct regular oil sampling and address anomalies from analysis.
- Ensure instrumentation is calibrated according to Ontario regulations.
- Oversee inspections and testing of lifting equipment per legal standards.
- Analyze TBM data to optimize consumable usage and performance.
- Implement approved equipment modifications to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, testing, and inspections.
- Keep mechanical and electrical personnel informed and provide operative instructions.
- Liaise with mechanics to ensure adherence to work procedures and upcoming tasks.
- Champion health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, setting a strong safety example.
- Manage mechanical documentation and uphold high environmental standards.
- Inform Project Managers of potential risks and opportunities affecting the project.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 12–15 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, ideally in underground construction or tunneling.
- Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) in Ontario—required.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian mechanical codes, regulations, and safety standards for tunnel construction equipment.
- Proven expertise in developing and executing maintenance programs for complex machinery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teams, supervisors, and management.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accurate maintenance records.
- Deep commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) principles, fostering a safe work culture.
- Proficiency in mechanical engineering software (e.g., SolidWorks, MATLAB, or similar) for data analysis and reporting.
