Job Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer (ME) with MGR Workforce, you'll work under the Tunnel Plant Manager to oversee the lifecycle of mechanical equipment in a tunnel construction project. From implementing safe systems to managing maintenance and troubleshooting, you'll keep machinery—like TBMs—running smoothly, minimizing downtime, and driving project success through technical expertise and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement safe work systems and issue permits for mechanical operations.

  • Develop and oversee maintenance plans for all mechanical equipment.

  • Maintain TBMs and related machinery (including electrical components) per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

  • Plan and schedule maintenance to align with tunnel production timelines.

  • Manage spare parts inventory to ensure efficient equipment upkeep.

  • Conduct regular oil sampling and address anomalies from analysis.

  • Ensure instrumentation is calibrated according to Ontario regulations.

  • Oversee inspections and testing of lifting equipment per legal standards.

  • Analyze TBM data to optimize consumable usage and performance.

  • Implement approved equipment modifications to enhance safety and efficiency.

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance, testing, and inspections.

  • Keep mechanical and electrical personnel informed and provide operative instructions.

  • Liaise with mechanics to ensure adherence to work procedures and upcoming tasks.

  • Champion health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, setting a strong safety example.

  • Manage mechanical documentation and uphold high environmental standards.

  • Inform Project Managers of potential risks and opportunities affecting the project.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, ideally in underground construction or tunneling.

  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) in Ontario—required.

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian mechanical codes, regulations, and safety standards for tunnel construction equipment.

  • Proven expertise in developing and executing maintenance programs for complex machinery.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teams, supervisors, and management.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accurate maintenance records.

  • Deep commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) principles, fostering a safe work culture.

  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering software (e.g., SolidWorks, MATLAB, or similar) for data analysis and reporting.

Why Join MGR Workforce?

  • Competitive hourly pay of $56–$60, reflecting your skills and experience.

  • Chance to contribute to a cutting-edge tunnel construction project in Toronto.

  • Collaborative environment with a focus on safety and career development.
