Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect bulldozers, cranes, graders, and other heavy construction, agricultural, logging, and mining equipment to ensure proper performance and detect faults or malfunctions.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using computerized systems and diagnostic tools to determine the nature and extent of repairs required.
- Repair or replace faulty components and systems using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Perform adjustments and overhauls on a variety of machinery and systems such as transmissions, hydraulics, electronics, and fuel injection.
- Test repaired equipment to verify functionality and ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and servicing of mechanical systems.
- Maintain and service attachments and tools such as ploughs, tillage equipment, winches, side booms, and harvesting gear.
- May perform repair work on heavy trucks and adjust or attach new farm equipment.
- May specialize in specific systems or equipment types (e.g., tracked vehicles, power shift transmissions, engine overhaul, electronics).
Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary school and relevant vocational training is typically required.
- Completion of a 3- to 5-year apprenticeship program in heavy-duty equipment mechanics OR A combination of 3+ years of work experience in the field and related industry training courses.
