Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and substance use treatments.

Job Summary
The Director of Human Resources and Organizational Wellness plays a key leadership role in shaping a high-performing, equitable, and resilient workplace culture at Somerset West Community Health Centre. This strategic leader is responsible for driving the Centres human resources strategy, aligning HR practices with organizational priorities, and fostering a people-first culture rooted in wellness, inclusion, and accountability.
With a focus on organizational alignment, crisis management, and change leadership, the Director leads initiatives in leadership development, team effectiveness, employee engagement, and policy development. This role ensures compliance with labour laws and regulations, oversees HR technologies and systems, and stewards the HR budget to ensure effective resource allocation.
As a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team, the Director brings expertise in managing complex organizational change, embedding wellness into everyday practices, and building inclusive employee programs that support growth, organizational effectiveness, and long-term success.
SWCHC is invested in the establishment of systems and functions that recognize the lived experience and professional expertise in modern people practices that are deeply rooted in principles of equity. To be successful in this role, the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Wellness must be a strong advocate for equity and anti-racism, with a deep understanding of the workplace challenges experienced by communities who face marginalization.
The Director of Human Resources and Organizational Wellness is an integral member of the Senior Management Team and is responsible for all aspects of the human resources function; overseeing all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety function; and serves as a key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer in the development and implementation of human resource strategies and practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior Human Resource leadership role, preferably in a fast-paced, high-growth non-profit organization.
A Certified Human Resource Leader designation is required.
Experience developing and implementing organizational development strategies, programs and initiatives that align with the overall company strategy and culture.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in complex non-profit organizations within the health and social services sector preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated experience in leading anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within an organization. This includes creating and implementing training programs, employee resource groups, and other initiatives to foster a more equitable and inclusive workplace culture.
In-depth knowledge of current best practices and research on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, as well as the ability to stay up to date on emerging trends and issues in this area.
Experience working with underrepresented groups, such as women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other equity deserving communities, and a commitment to ensuring that their voices are heard and valued within the organization.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across diverse groups of stakeholders, including employees, senior leaders, community members, and external partners.
A track record of successfully leading change initiatives related to equity and inclusion, including the ability to identify areas for improvement, develop and implement action plans, and measure and report on progress over time.
Demonstrated broad based management skills including strategic visioning and planning, business acumen, results-based management, and change management. Sound judgment and decision-making skills, and ability to delegate.
Effective communication skills (verbal and written) appropriate for the position, including political/organizational acuity, business acumen, the ability to foster effective relationship with funders, staff, and others.
Proven ability to lead and manage staff within diverse multi-disciplinary teams and demonstrated success as a collaborator. This includes demonstrated interpersonal, teambuilding, and mentoring skills which support innovation and organizational success within a rapidly changing and complex environment.
Technical knowledge and ability to apply relevant legislative requirements, including but not limited to occupational health and safety, finance, accessibility, privacy, and human resources.
Demonstrated commitment to work under pressure, ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple projects and demands, and ability to be flexible to achieve organizational goals. Competency in applying quality improvement tools is an asset.
They must also possess strong leadership and collaboration skills and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
