This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you'll be at the core of financial operations, supporting plant management and collaborating with Head Office. You'll play a key part in driving efficiency and profitability by analyzing costs, managing inventory, and delivering actionable financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain cost accounting records, including production costs, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
- Monitor daily production activity and evaluate direct and indirect costs.
- Analyze raw material, labor, and overhead costs; generate detailed reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual cost audits, reconciling cost accounts and ensuring the accuracy of financial reports.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring cost assumptions are accurate and aligned with plant goals.
- Collaborate with inventory teams to ensure accurate inventory counts and cost allocations across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Work closely with production teams to understand processes and cost drivers, offering insight into cost-saving and efficiency strategies.
- Prepare financial reports and present findings to senior management, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific practices.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls and cost-related policies.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related diploma.
- 2–3 years of cost accounting experience in a seafood plant or meat and poultry manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, financial analysis, and inventory management.
- Proficiency with Sage 300 accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Must be willing to work on-site, Monday through Friday (minimum 5 days per week).
- Knowledge of seafood processing operations and supply chain management is a strong asset
