Our client is a dynamic mining company with operations in the US and a head office in Vancouver is seeking to add a new Assistant Controller to their team.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP standards.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.

Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable and general ledger management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
  • Maintain and reconcile financial records.
  • Coordinate and manage statutory tax filings promptly.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate training programs.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting regulations and internal controls, particularly SOX.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and their impact on financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and assist with external audits.

Financial Analysis:

  • Perform monthly variance analysis.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with departments and offices in Canada, USA, and South America.
  • Communicate financial information to management and other stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Professional Certifications:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in financial reporting for publicly listed companies, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in the mining or resource industry.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite).
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
