Position Summary:
Our Client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Division in our London or Kitchener office. The successful candidate will be technically proficient in the required codes and standards, with a strong passion for thinking outside the box and finding practical solutions that meet our clients' needs. Responsibilities:
Meet with Design Leads & Project Leads to develop conceptual design (i.e. redline meetings). Identify any potential design issues and codes involved.
Prepare, assist and/or review design briefs, drawings and specifications.
Assist and/or review equipment design costs and comparisons.
Technical advisor to the project team.
Engineering reviews to ensure accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the applicable codes and standards; seal own work and work prepared by other team members.
Ensure engineering reviews are completed to ensure project is delivered on time and on budget. Set milestones and perform progress reviews during a project. Provide updates as required to project team.
Creating and/or reviewing alternative solutions, issuing letters addressing permit comments.
Ensure proper hand-off of projects to Construction Services team by assisting Project Lead with review of project verification requirements and critical items list.
Assist Project Lead with construction support items, as required.
Assist Construction Services with site reviews and provide construction support, as required.
Review Site Reports (completed by Construction Services) when observations/deficiencies or occupancy items are noted and provide feedback.
Project verification review and preparing occupancy letters.
Site visit at project completion to confirm systems are installed and operating in accordance with the drawings, specifications, and sequence of operation, as required.
Communicate with clients, other engineering disciplines, contractors, manufacturers representatives and other project stakeholders, as required.
Provide mentoring, teaching, and direction to team members, as required.
Assist the mechanical engineering team with continuous development and updating of design standards.
Other tasks as requested or assigned by team members or Mechanical Division Manager
Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent is required.
Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is required.
5+ years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, specifically related to HVAC & Plumbing construction industry or equivalent required.
Substantial knowledge of pertinent codes and standards (O.B.C., CSA Standards, ASHRAE etc.).
Experience in the design of mechanical systems commonly used in multi-unit residential buildings, or similar, is required.
Experience in private sector works, specifically working with private sector developers is considered an asset.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
