Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase lumber and a variety of building materials to meet project and inventory demands
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times with suppliers to maintain cost-effectiveness and inventory levels
- Track and expedite orders, ensuring on-time delivery and resolving delays or supply issues
- Monitor stock levels and forecast needs based on current and upcoming projects
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable supply and quality control
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, operations, project managers) to understand material needs and timelines
- Verify purchase orders, invoices, and shipping documentation for accuracy
- Identify alternative suppliers or materials when issues arise to avoid disruptions
- Stay current on market trends, pricing, and product availability within the lumber and building materials industry
- 3–5+ years of experience in procurement, buying, or expediting in the lumber or building materials industry
- Strong knowledge of lumber grades, sizes, species, and general building materials
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in purchasing and inventory software (e.g., Epicor, Sage, or similar)
- Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Valid driver's license (if occasional supplier/site visits are required)
