arc programs is accepting applications for full-timeYouth Justice Counsellor to join the Choices Program which is based out of our downtown office located in Kelowna BC.

The Youth Justice Counselor will provide skilled intervention and case management support services to high-risk young offenders. The counsellor will provide counselling and support youth to address factors contributing to their criminal behaviour and assistance to implement an intergrade case management plan and engage in community services.

Hours / Schedule:

  • Full-time, Temporary position
  • Based on 38-hour work week,

Responsibilities:


The specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Will provide assessmentservice planning interviews with referred youth, and their families if appropriate. Will participate in Integrated Case Management team conferences.
  • Will cooperate with Youth Probation staff, youth, parents, and other service providers in developing individualized service plans (ISPs) for all program participants.
  • Will assist Youth Probation in monitoring youth compliance with their probation order conditions and provide support to youth in identifying and addressing barriers to complying with their orders.
  • Will provide support, orientation, and encouragement to youth in engaging in needed community services, as per the ISP.
  • Will provide supervision and behavioural intervention services for youth, to improve their functioning in the community.
  • Will provide counselling and support to youth in developing age-appropriate life skills while engaging in recreational activities with program participants, as per the goals of the ISP.
  • Provide family, mediation, and parenting support as per the goals of their ISP.
  • Will write client intake reports (comprehensive assessment/interpretive summary, ISPs, letter re brief service, etc.), program transition/discharge reports, and provide other case administration procedures as per program guidelines and time frames.
  • Work to support the best interest of the child (or youth), by providing a touchstone for decision-making, individualized service planning, integrated case management, and resolving conflicts or complaints.
  • Liaison with MCFD Youth Probation staff and other community service providers to facilitate the coordination and integration of services for program participants.
  • Will provide Curfew Check services (Kelowna staff), on a rotating basis, as per the program description.
  • Will provide services that that promote cultural safety are sensitive to, and respectful of clients different cultures and diversity issues.

Preferred Education and Experience:


Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description.

  • A BSW or a bachelors degree in a Social Services, or Criminology discipline (BSW, CYC, etc.) is preferred.
  • BA in Psychology with 2 years' experience.
  • CYC Certificate with 3 years related experience.
  • 4 years combination of professional-specific training and related experience.

Other Requirements

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must Undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:


$27.00 - $30.50 per hour, based on relevant experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions)

New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, as well as paid sick days as described in agency policy.
