Job Description and Responsibilities
Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: picking non-ferrous metals from a moving conveyor, cleaning around the mill, sorting, stacking, and moving materials throughout the yard. Additionally, you will prepare materials for loading and unloading, perform general clean-up of the yard, and cut larger pieces of scrap steel using a cutting torch.
- Cut scrap steel to size using a cutting torch, into quality control assigned sizes
- Report any damages or issues to the supervisor
- Keeps yard area clean, tidy, and organized
- Various lifting and manual labor tasks are involved
- Follow established safe work practices at all times, including wearing all personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing
- Maintain and clean equipment as needed and assist maintenance to keep production equipment operational and functional
- Performs other duties as they might be assigned
Requirements
- Completion of High School and/or equivalent
- No experience necessary, but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard/auto part environment will be considered an asset
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day
- Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions, including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions
- Willing and able to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in dust, odors, fumes, and noise
- Willingness to learn and work responsibly
- Strong communication skills - communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and over radio devices
- Strong work ethic - uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around is working safely
- Responsible for handling, moving, and disposing of scrap material in a safe manner
- Strong attention to detail with close visual attention for sustained long periods
- Safety conscious and orientated, proven history of reliability, and mentally alert to surroundings
- Must have reliable transportation as the job site is not accessible by transit
