At the City of Penticton, our goal is to serve our residents, businesses, and visitors through good governance, partnership and the delivery of effective and community-focused services.

The City of Penticton is looking to fill part-time temporary positions for Youth Park Ambassadors in our Recreation Department. The Recreation Department promotes and contributes to a healthy community and enhances the quality of life for Penticton residents and visitors through planning, management and delivery of recreation, sport events and active living opportunities. This department partners with volunteers, community members and private sector providers to support recreation opportunities in the City.

Youth Park Ambassadors act as hosts and provide general supervision of the Penticton Youth Park in the summer months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe environment free of hazards, bullying and vandalism
  • Ensure appropriate usage of the Youth Park
  • Promote and provide education on appropriate usage and safety equipment while implementing the Helmet Education & Awareness Program
  • Plan and lead activities in the Youth Park
  • Provide minor first aid when required
  • Complete incident reports as necessary and follow up with supervisory staff
  • Act as a host to the general public visiting the Youth Park
  • Build relationships with visitors and create a sense of trust and respect
  • Provide appropriate authority to visitors ensuring respect of the Youth Park and others
  • Implement the expected helmet bylaw for the Youth Park.

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

  • Experience and/or education background working with children and youth
  • Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate supervision and authority to members of the public
  • Thorough understanding of the skateboarding & biking culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to resolve conflict

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 and CPR-C
