Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain forecasting models that account for economic, regulatory, and environmental influences on market trends.
- Research and assess the market compatibility of bulk commodities critical to operations, such as coal and sulfur.
- Perform in-depth analysis of metals markets, including copper, nickel, and precious metals, to identify trends in supply, demand, and pricing.
- Compile and present regular and ad hoc market insights, including supply-demand analyses, pricing sensitivities, and market outlooks.
- Manage relationships with providers of market intelligence and oversee the integration of external insights into strategic decision-making.
- Prepare detailed sections for corporate reports, such as board presentations, annual information forms, and market analysis summaries.
- Investigate and address product quality concerns raised by customers.
- Facilitate and coordinate customer site visits as well as reciprocal visits to company facilities.
- Partner with investment, finance, and operational teams to provide market insights that influence corporate strategies, investment decisions, and project planning.
- Track and analyze changes in environmental regulations, mining policies, and technological advancements that may impact market conditions.
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Geology, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in metals research, commodity analysis, or financial analysis within the metals/mining sector or financial institutions. Experience as a geologist or engineer in the mining or energy industry is an asset.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to client locations and company facilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for preparing clear reports and presentations.
- Proficiency in tools such as MS Excel, financial modeling software, and market databases (e.g., Bloomberg, Reuters Eikon).
