The ideal candidate is a recently registered P.Eng. (1–2 years) who is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to contribute to both technical design and strategic long-range planning for existing buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth inspections and assessments of electrical systems in existing buildings, including load evaluations, life expectancy reviews, and code compliance.
- Produce clear, strategic electrical planning reports for clients, focusing on long-term needs such as EV charging capacity, HVAC modernization, energy upgrades, and safety improvements.
- Design and layout electrical systems and upgrades, ensuring code compliance, constructability, and practicality.
- Estimate upgrade costs, assist in developing capital plans, and support tender documentation and specifications.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on energy audits, depreciation reports, and building renewal plans.
- Review and coordinate architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings to ensure cohesive integration with electrical systems.
- Attend client meetings, present findings and recommendations, and help guide decision-making around electrical investments.
- Optionally support or oversee electrical aspects of construction administration, including shop drawing reviews and field inspections.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- P.Eng. designation in good standing with EGBC, ideally held for 1–2 years.
- 3–5 years of experience in electrical design, building systems, and infrastructure planning for existing buildings.
- Strong understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code and BC Building Code requirements related to electrical systems.
- Demonstrated experience producing electrical planning reports and recommending phased upgrade strategies.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and common electrical design tools; capable with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Willingness to perform field work, including inspections on rooftops and at heights (e.g., ladders, swing stages).
- Experience with energy audits, capital planning, or depreciation reporting.
- Knowledge of EV charging infrastructure and energy efficiency upgrades.
- Familiarity with building envelope systems and their integration with electrical systems.
- Experience working with strata corporations or property managers.
- Proficiency in Revit or additional engineering software (e.g., lighting analysis, load calculation tools).
