Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00-4:30 pm

The MacEwan University Health Centre is a new state-of-the-art primary care clinic, located in downtown Edmonton, focused on the Patient-Centered Medical Home model which provides patient-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care based on the patients needs. Reporting to the Clinic Manager and with the support of the Nursing Supervisor, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides safe, competent, compassionate and ethical nursing care. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse helps to manage a designated panel of patients in collaboration with the physician and team Additionally, the RPN will also have a teaching and mentoring component to the role whereby they will participate in the education with physicians, residents, MOAs and non-physician learners. There will also be a collaboration with other health care professionals/providers to help achieve our model of Patient-Centered Care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and evaluations for post-secondary students and adults, focusing on ADHD management and related mental health conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, focusing on recovery and well-being, tailored to the needs of individuals with ADHD.
  • Administer and monitor psychobiological treatment regimens, including psychiatric medications and other treatment modalities for ADHD.
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization techniques to manage acute psychiatric situations.
  • Educate patients, families, and the community on mental health, ADHD, and addiction topics through psychoeducation and resources.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including residents, physicians, nurses, social workers, and pharmacists, to ensure seamless patient care within the Medical Home Model.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research in mental health and ADHD management.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and in compliance with clinical standards.
  • Lead or co-lead group therapy sessions focused on ADHD and mental health.

Qualifications

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CNA).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in mental health and/or addictions care, with a specific focus on adult ADHD.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to provide psychoeducation and collaborate in a multidisciplinary, team-based care environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and a recovery-oriented approach.
  • Current RPN license in Alberta
