Job overview

Our client seeking an experienced and highly skilled MEP Engineer with an emphasis on knowledge of HVAC systems and construction industry experience to join our dynamic team. The MEP Engineer will be responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for various projects. This role requires close collaboration with the in-house design team of architects and structural engineers, as well as with external design consultants to ensure that MEP systems are efficiently integrated into the building design. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and sustainable design and implementation of mechanical systems in a variety of building projects.

Key Responsibilities:

MEP Coordination and Collaboration:

· Work with external MEP consultants to coordinate the design of MEP systems, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services into the structural and architectural layout.

· Coordinate with architectural and structural teams to ensure mechanical systems do not interfere with building structure or aesthetics.

· Prepare submittals, shop drawings, and materials to ensure they comply with the MEP design intent and project specifications.

· Maintain proper documentation throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design through job closeout.

· Review external consultants' drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance with local building codes, and standards (such as ASHRAE), and clarity for the manufacturing team.

· Participate in project planning, including scope definition, budgeting, and scheduling, with a focus on mechanical systems.

· Collaborate with the BECC's manufacturing to resolve technical issues and changes on time and on budget.

Design and Development:

· Lead the design and analysis of HVAC systems for pre-manufactured modular buildings, ensuring energy efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with regulations.

· Specify and select appropriate mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, heat exchangers, fans, and pumps.

· Develop MEP layouts and coordinate mechanical system placement with architectural plans.

Sustainable Design and Energy Efficiency:

· Work on implementing sustainable mechanical systems (e.g., heat recovery systems, geothermal heat pumps, and solar thermal systems) to meet project sustainability goals like LEED and Net Zero Energy.

· Collaborate with the energy modelling team to analyze and improve the energy performance of HVAC systems, ensuring projects meet or exceed energy efficiency targets and regulations.

· Ensure integration of mechanical systems with smart building technologies, building automation systems (BAS) and band sensors ensuring control strategies, optimized for energy savings and occupant comfort.

Stakeholders Interaction and Support:

· Provide technical support and guidance to clients and the manufacturing team during the design phase.

· Participate in client meetings, explaining technical aspects of MEP systems in a clear and accessible manner.

Continuous Improvement:

· Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations in MEP and sustainable design.

· Conduct post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development of internal standards and guidelines during the R&D sessions.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng) certification or eligibility is an advantage.

A minimum of 10+ years of proven experience in the design and coordination of MEP engineering systems preferably in the construction industry

Technical Skills:

· Proficiency in MEP design software such as Revit, AutoCAD

· Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, including sizing, equipment selection, and energy efficiency.

· Knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems integration as part of the MEP framework.

· Familiarity with building codes, ASHRAE standards, and sustainability frameworks such as Net Zero.

· Ability to perform calculations and simulations for heat/cooling load, ventilation, and sizing is an advantage.

· Experience with energy modelling software is an advantage.

Soft Skills:

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

· Strong problem-solving abilities and technical acumen to resolve MEP design challenges.

Salary and Benefits:

· Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

· Excellent health, vision and dental benefits.
