Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities
· Supervise and schedule a team of technicians conducting field testing of aggregate, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
· Complete field training and mentoring of new staff members.
· Review, revise, and submit daily field test reports from the Materials Technicians to the required Project Managers, clients, sub-consultants, and contractors.
· Possess a thorough knowledge of all our field procedures and provide co-worker support to ensure proper safety and quality guidelines are maintained.
· Learn and apply related ASTM, ATT, or CSA test procedures.
· Review, comprehend, and communicate to Materials Technicians project drawings and specifications to ensure proper field-testing procedures are being followed.
· Be responsible for the Materials Technicians following proper safety, wearing PPE, and using equipment properly by completing field audits.
· Actively support, engage, comply, and provide feedback for BASE's Health and Safety Program.
· Training, calibration(s), maintenance, and daily supervision of the BASE nuclear gauge program.
· Support the Geotechnical Lab & Field Manager with various field or additional duties.
External Certification Duties and Responsibilities
· Complete CCIL concrete and aggregate certification, the required regional program requirements, and assist the Supervising Professional and Geotechnical Field & Lab Manager with overall program compliance.
· Performing, recording, and maintaining compliance for routine field-testing equipment maintenance and calibration.
· Complete the regional asset management and supervision of field-testing equipment.
· Complete the regional hiring and dismissal process of local field Materials Technicians.
· Actively engage, comply, and complete the regional requirements for the Radiation Safety Program as a Regional RSO.
· Support the Geotechnical Lab & Field Manager with various lab, field, or additional duties.
Qualifications
· Technical diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering with 5+ years of progressive supervisory work-related experience.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work in both individual and team environments.
· Experience establishing and maintaining client relationships.
· Previous knowledge and experience with related ASTM, ATT, or CSA test procedures.
· Ability to review, provide feedback, and communicate field and laboratory report data.
· Ability to review and interpret project drawings and specifications.
· Technical competence, analytical abilities, and attention to details.
· Class 5 Drivers License in good standing.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and PDF editing programs.
· Valid CCIL and/or CSA concrete and aggregate certification(s).
· Able to travel and work a flexible / rotating schedule to support field and construction projects.
· Geotechnical engineering investigations, inspections, and reporting experience would be an asset (specifically geotechnical field drilling, pile construction inspections, foundation bearing inspections, proof rolls, etc.).
· Experience in a consulting engineering environment would be considered an asset, specifically materials testing, including aggregate, soils, concrete, and/or asphalt.
