Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and power shovels to excavate, move, load, and grade materials (earth, rock, gravel, etc.).
- Operate bulldozers and similar equipment to clear land, brush, and stumps for logging and road-building purposes.
- Use pile driver-equipped equipment to install structural supports for buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure.
- Operate dredging machinery to deepen waterways or reclaim earth fill for land development.
- Use paving and surfacing equipment to lay and compact asphalt or concrete during highway and road construction.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections, regular maintenance, cleaning, lubricating, and refueling of equipment.
- Safely operate heavy equipment to load, move, and unload cargo in a variety of industrial settings.
- Follow safety protocols and company procedures to ensure a secure working environment.
Qualifications:
- Some secondary school education is required.
- Completion of a 1-2 year apprenticeship program or a combination of high school, college, or industry courses in heavy equipment operation with on-the-job training.
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a similar role.
- Trade certification (dozer, excavator, tractor-loader-backhoe) is: Mandatory in Quebec
- Voluntary in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Ontario
- Internal company certification may be required.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and operational best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and site layouts.
- Physical stamina and good hand-eye coordination.
- Experience working in varied environments (construction sites, logging roads, mining operations, etc.)
