Company Overview:
Our client is a well-established and diversified manufacturing organization with a strong portfolio of 5-6 distinct brands. Their finance function is structured to support these diverse operations, featuring a collaborative team of accountants, senior accountants, and business-specific controllers.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly capable and strategic Divisional Controller to lead the financial operations of our client's Energy Division, based in Calgary. This pivotal role will be responsible for the consolidation of financial results, oversight of cash management, and the delivery of timely and accurate monthly financial reporting across multiple brands within the division. The successful candidate will be a proactive financial leader who can provide mentorship to the team, offer insightful financial perspectives to challenge senior leadership, and drive business success through financial analysis and process enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Oversight & Reporting
  • Consolidate divisional financial results across multiple brands.
  • Oversee cash management, financial trends analysis, sales, and costing.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and ensure accurate business reporting.
  • Support internal audits and oversee issue resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and best financial practices.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead a team of 3 direct reports (controllers).
  • Oversee a total finance and accounting team of 10-12 people, including payroll technicians.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching, particularly in a non-formal, collaborative environment.
  • Strategic & Operational Support
  • Work as a key financial liaison between division business and corporate.
  • Evaluate financial trends and standardize financial processes across the business.
  • Inventory counts, audit scheduling, and financial controls implementation.
  • Work with ERP systems to ensure smooth financial operations.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation preferred, relevant education.
  • Experience in manufacturing finance, preferably with ERP exposure.
  • Strong understanding of treasury, corporate finance, and operational control.
  • Proven ability to challenge leadership while supporting the business.
  • Comfortable in a non-structured, fast-paced environment.
