Your Role at GEI. GEI is seeking students eligible for co-operative education work terms who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI's growing team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver materials testing / inspection, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and environmental design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Ontario Market. The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for staff members to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario and expand our geotechnical engineering services specific to Materials Testing and Inspection. GEI's earth sciences practice leadership in Ontario is located Barrie, and an expectation would be for the successful candidate to be present in the Barrie branch office to facilitate in-person collaboration with the team. Essential Responsibilities & Duties- Based in the Barrie, Markham or Guelph Offices of GEI, attend select construction sites in Southern and Central Ontario to perform testing / inspection of granular, soil, hot mix asphalt and field testing of cast-in-place during various phases of construction.
- Become familiar with review of design drawings, project specifications and industry accepted construction standards developed by Municipal, Provincial and Federal agencies.
- Direct preparation of technical reports, memos, and analysis following appropriate Company guidelines.
- Collaborate with the geotechnical and environmental staff on joint projects, as well as collaborate with and support other GEI teams (e.g., geotechnical investigation, environmental monitoring; ecological, geostructural, municipal, etc.) on various projects.
- Assist with laboratory testing, as required, in support of field activities.
- Promote health and safety in all aspects of work.
- With adequate training, be able to work independently in all aspects of the services to be provided.
- In good academic standing in a Civil or Construction Engineering Technology program with an accredited post secondary institution, eligible for 8 month co-operative education work term. Note: 4 month work terms and/or students enrolled in an Environmental Engineering program may be considered based on specific qualifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, MS Project, and other computer applications.
- Valid driver's license with access to a personal vehicle. Note: business use insurance is a requirement of the position.
