About the opportunity:
As a Communications and Engagement Specialist at CLBC, you will lead and advance proactive, transparent and accessible communication and engagement strategies. Working closely with Communication Specialists and the Engagement Lead, you will proactively develop materials to share complex information in plain language and coordinate the creation and promotion of impactful stories both internally and externally, highlighting our work, our partnerships, and the voices of people and families served by CLBC. You will develop and implement CLBC's digital media strategy, working collaboratively with staff at all levels throughout the organization to identify and create stories to share CLBC information, using plain language, visuals, infographics, video and audio content. In addition, you will work with volunteer family members, service providers and self-advocates on CLBC Community Councils, arranging and attending events, interviewing people, capturing photos, videos and stories, and facilitating meaningful interactions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serves as a key representative of the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, community partners, and service providers
- Actively engages with families, agencies, and provincial-wide networks by attending events, fostering collaboration, and advocating for the organization's mission
- Conducts external community partner mapping to identify key community groups and partners
- Writes and coordinates content for CLBC's monthly newsletters and external publications. .
- Creates and implements a social media strategy that enhances engagement and outreach, in alignment with CLBC's strategic communication goals
- Creates visually compelling content such as graphics, infographics, videos etc., using a variety of industry standard tools to strengthen storytelling and increase outreach efforts
- Uses advanced accessibility knowledge to write in plain language and create visual supports such as infographics and augmentative communication tools to enhance accessibility
- Works closely with the Communications team to stay abreast of topical matters regarding online engagement and determines appropriate responses; identifies and shares valuable information and resources from partners
- Assists with the coordination and facilitation of monthly community council meetings
- Works with members of CLBC's community councils to arrange engagement activities and create stories that are shared broadly with stakeholders and the public
- Represents the organization at community events, gathering stories and strengthening relationships and connections with community partners
- Enhances staff and community awareness of sector-wide inclusion efforts using social media
What you will bring:
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or business with a concentration in marketing, technology or a related field of study
- Minimum of 3 years' direct experience in community engagement, graphic design, and implementing social media strategies for a complex organization, preferably in a public sector organization
- Strong interpersonal communication, facilitation skills, and a passion for inclusive, accessible communications are essential
- Direct experience developing and managing online content in various formats, creating content using language supports and plain language, and supporting and coordinating community outreach events
- Experience working with people and families served by CLBC and community partners is an asset
We're also looking for:
- Knowledge of basic HTML & CSS coding principles to format and troubleshoot web content when needed
- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices for creating accessible digital content
- Advanced understanding of accessibility best practices, including plain language, augmentative communication tools, visual supports and content that supports and captivates diverse audiences
- Strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to monitor and analyse ongoing communication efforts, adjusting tactics as needed in response to sensitive issues and emerging risks
- Experience with design and layout workflows for printed publications and materials using tools like Adobe InDesign and equivalent web-based publishing tools
- Skilled in using content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal for managing and updating website content
- Ability to create and edit graphics and photos using tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator or equivalent web-based design platforms to enhance content and support visual communication and storytelling
- Ability to capture and edit video using tools like Adobe Premier Pro or equivalent web-based editing tools, and familiarity with video hosting platforms such as Vimeo and YouTube for publishing and distributing video content
