Position Overview:
As a Field Survey Assistant co-op student, you will work primarily in the field under the direction of a Project Manager and a Field Survey Technician (Party Chief). Your role will involve supporting the Party Chief in various aspects of surveying work across a diverse range of projects including land development, topographic surveys, infrastructure projects, and more. This hands-on position provides valuable exposure to the surveying industry and an opportunity to gain practical experience in survey data collection and field operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and use of surveying instruments such as total stations, GNSS receivers, and other tools.
  • Support the Party Chief in preparing field survey records, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Assist in organization and maintenance of survey equipment.
  • Clear vegetation and debris for measurements to be taken.
  • Follow all safety guidelines provided by Aplin & Martin.
  • Be a positive representative of the company to your co-workers, the public, and clients; and,
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Survey or Geomatics Technology program or related field.
  • Six months of Field experience is an asset.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying survey equipment.
  • Ability to work in a variety of outdoor settings and weather conditions.
  • Ability to work as a team member and take direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Valid AB driver's license.
  • Available to work out of town occasionally, and,
  • Availability of personal vehicle for business use (mileage will be compensated).
