We areseeking a dynamic, highly motivated Manager, Children & Family Services who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment, to our clients, families, and each other.
The Manager, Children & Family Services manages all aspects of early years services, including people, programs, community relations, licensing, and promotion.
This position is a non-unionized, full-time, temporary position. This is an 18-month maternity leave contract, there is potential for it to end early.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of Wesley Licensed, EarlyON, and Authorized Recreation programs.
- Responsible for hiring and onboarding of Supervisors and frontline staff.
- Performance Management for staff in programs, including training and reflective practice supervision using coaching and mentoring principles.
- In collaboration with other Children and Family Services Leadership team members, coordinate staff schedules and ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times.
- Ensure Quality within the EarlyON programs as it pertains to City of Hamilton EarlyON regulations and Wesley's best practices.
- Monitor and document staff adherence to all licensing requirements and ensure up-to-date and annual sign-off of all policies as required by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.
- Back Up for all aspects of Ministry of Education child care licensing for all sites and Serious Occurrence reporting.
- Update and maintain Licensed Child Care and EarlyON programs policies and procedures and parent information packages, ensuring compliance with current regulatory requirements.
- Monitor the quality of all programs, Wesley policies adherence, and the Ministry of Educations How Does Learning Happen? pedagogy.
- Develop, plan, implement, and provide appropriate information, services, and programs for those inquiring about or accessing the programs.
- Monitor enrolment to stay within operating capacity with the intent to increase enrolment to licensed capacity at all sites.
- Lead the development of promotional plans and materials.
- Welcome, support, and interact with clients, remembering to be sensitive to all families, including those culturally diverse, GLBTQ, young parents, etc.
- Ensure a high level of community participation and service delivery in the programs, including promotion of the programs in the community. This will include establishing and maintaining a good rapport with neighbourhood associations and schools.
- Chair regular team meetings with supervisors and oversee the supervisors' coordination of team meetings in all areas to ensure timely and clear communications.
- Follow the policies and procedures of the programs and Wesley Urban Ministries, including the Collective Bargaining Agreement and legislative compliance.
- Be responsible for the submission of time sheets, reports, etc., as required.
- Visit and complete checklists at all locations on a regular basis to ensure program needs are being met and in compliance with program mandate/licensing.
- Identify and communicate any trends, activities, concerns, stories, changes, and incidents in the programs through regular communication and supervision with the Director.
- Maintain petty cash and monitor program spending to remain within budget.
- Ensure open communication with parents/caregivers and other participants.
- Provide reports and make presentations as required.
- Gather statistics and data on programs on weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
- Complete monthly City of Hamilton Subsidy submissions.
- Uphold all standards legislated by the Hamilton Board of Health.
- Abide by the health and safety policies of Wesley Urban Ministries Inc.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education and registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Minimum of 5 years of current experience working as a Supervisor of a licensed child care program and/or EarlyON Program.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014) and experience in managing the Ministry of Educations licensing requirements.
- Experience with EarlyON programs and familiarity with the regulatory guidelines.
- Knowledge of the Authorized Recreation After-School Programs.
- Experience with Performance Management and Performance Improvement.
- Proven leadership skills in the areas of communication, team management, change management, conflict management, and service coordination with internal and external partner agencies.
- Experience working with children with special needs and working in collaboration with Special Needs Resourcing partners.
- Experience with Procare, CCLS, OCCMS, and KeyON data systems preferred.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Experience and sensitivity working with all staff and families, including those in an urban core setting, culturally diverse, LGBTQ2+, young parents, etc.
- A thorough understanding of EDI.
- Bilingual (French/English) and fluency in other languages is an asset.
- Current 1st aid/CPR, N.V.C.I. training. ECERS, SACERS, and Quest 1(High Five) training are assets.
- Valid G drivers license and use of a reliable vehicle.
- Knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office products, Outlook, and other relevant computer programs and the internet.
