Communications Assistant
Temporary Full Time (1 Year contract)
Up to 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, some evening and weekend work as required

Summary
The Communications Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Communications Coordinator and Student Engagement team in promoting the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) and its services, events, and initiatives. The Communications Assistant is a creative outgoing individual who is passionate about student life, social media engagement, and brand storytelling.
This role will provide essential support in content creation, student outreach, and ensuring consistency across FSU communications. The Communications Assistant will work closely with the Communications team and student staff to maintain a dynamic and inclusive FSU presence both online and on campus.
Job Duties:
Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to curate engaging content across FSU social media platforms to build brand awareness and boost student engagement.
Assist in the planning and execution of campaigns and initiatives, including the development of promotional materials and digital resources.
Serve as an on-screen personality for the FSU podcast, reels, and other digital content.
Attend and promote FSU events through live coverage, photo and video content, and student interaction.
Ensure all content aligns with FSUs Accessibility standards and reflects principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
Support consistent communications for Class Representatives and other student-led initiatives.
Act as a liaison between full-time staff and student communications staff.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when representing the FSU in-person and through digital platforms
Provide feedback and insights to enhance digital engagement strategies based on analytics and student input.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Interactive Media, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a non-profit or student-focused environment.
Strong understanding of the student experience and issues affecting post-secondary learners is an asset.
Comfortable working on-camera, with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience using social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat.
Familiarity with content management systems and web tools (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Vue) is an asset.
Proficiency in photography, video editing software, and analytics tools to evaluate engagement and performance.
Knowledge of graphic design principles and basic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
Strong understanding of Accessibility standards and EDI best practices.
Excellent time management, organizational, and project coordination skills.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Access to reliable transportation for event attendance and on-campus coverage.
