Health Promoter- Children and Youth

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a community health centre, offering a variety of health and social services to residents living in the South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre catchment area. We require a bilingual (French/English) Intake Worker to work with our Social Services team.

JOB SUMMARY

The Health Promoter Children and Youth plays a vital role as a member of the Community Services Team, working to enhance the health and well-being of children and youth in the community. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering a range of health promotion and community-based programs that are responsive to the unique needs of young people. The Health Promoter collaborates closely with internal teams, families, community members, and partner organizations to design age-appropriate, culturally sensitive programming that empowers youth and promotes healthy lifestyles. This role also includes outreach, education, and advocacy efforts aimed at fostering engagement, building community capacity, and supporting positive developmental outcomes for children and youth.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University preparation in Health Sciences, education or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of health promotion programs using a community development approach.
  • Experience with Children and Youth.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of Children, Youth and Families.
  • Experience working with individual from differing social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent facilitator and support skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English, oral proficiency in French.

Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and delivers health promotion programs for children and youth in collaboration with community partners and staff, ensuring content is culturally and developmentally appropriate.
  • Engages youth and families in decision-making processes to empower and support healthy choices and behaviors.
  • Refers clients to internal and external health and social services as needed and maintains strong community partnerships, especially with youth-serving organizations.
  • Maintains accurate program records and evaluations, revising programs based on outcomes and feedback.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises youth staff, and supports the development of child and youth initiatives, including writing grants and proposals.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external partners, including local community centers, to plan and implement programs.
  • Participates in Centre-wide activities, including policy development, team meetings, and contributing to broader organizational goals.
  • Leads community outreach and advocacy efforts, identifying youth health promotion needs and increasing awareness and participation in Centre programs.

Salary range: $53,435 to $62,881/annum
