The Role:

The Accountant will assist in managing day-to-day accounting and finance requirements for the Construction Team. The ideal employee for this position is a skilled and resourceful individual who is reliable and committed to providing excellent service to internal Canco stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.

  • Perform and ensure accuracy of financial records through bank reconciliations, and prepare, analyze, and report on financial statements, budgets, and forecasts
  • Contribute to the shortening of overall cycle times.
  • Assist with external audits and tax filings.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to gather financial data and support decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting standards.
  • Performing ad-hoc administrative/reporting duties as they arise.

Financial Reporting & Budgeting

  • Monitor, update, and prepare performance and budget reports.
  • Generate and present financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, along with monthly and annual accounting results, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Oversee revenues and expenses.

Accounts Payable & Receivable Management

  • Manage and monitor the department's accounts payable and receivable.
  • Complete EFT authorization forms/requests to facilitate vendor payments

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Assess current accounting operations and processes, recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Assist in planning and executing the annual audit in collaboration with external auditors.

Collaboration & Team Support

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
  • Assist in overseeing departmental accounting and control functions.
  • Undertake other duties as required to support the accounting functions effectively.
  • Complete additional projects related to financial oversite of the Construction Department as requested by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Preferred 3 5 years progressive experience in a related role.
  • Proven experience as an accountant, preferably in the Construction industry.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage 100, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel.
  • Comfortable with learning new software and working collaboratively in a growing team.
