As a key member of the Stanley Park Pavilion banquet team, the Banquet Server plays a vital role in delivering exceptional guest and food service during weddings and corporate events. Responsibilities include event setup and teardown, plated and buffet-style meal service, and wine service.
Banquet Servers ensure the cleanliness and organization of the dining area, adhere to proper food handling procedures, and efficiently clear tables. Additional duties include following opening and closing procedures while creating a seamless and memorable experience for guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Guest Service & Operations
- Engage with guests to create a welcoming experience by providing excellent product knowledge, beverage recommendations, and local area insights,
- Assist with event setup and teardown, including lifting and arranging banquet tables, buffet stations, and chairs,
- Set up and dismantle ceremony spaces, including white folding chairs,
- Coordinate side lawn event setups, ensuring the proper transportation of equipment and food & beverage items,
- Prepare table settings, including napkin folding, polishing flatware, and arranging glassware,
- Follow proper food and beverage service protocols to ensure a seamless dining experience,
- Maintain strong menu and beverage knowledge, noting special requests and addressing guest inquiries,
- Prepare and serve beverages promptly, following wine service etiquette as needed,
- Provide full table service, including order taking, food running, and clearing tables,
- Handle tray service efficiently, carrying multiple drinks such as champagne flutes and wine glasses,
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure guest satisfaction,
- Maintain open and prompt communication with PAV Supervisors and/or the Executive Chef to address guest needs, complaints, or special requests,
- Adhere to a strict professional dress code at all times.
Teamwork & Other Duties
- Foster strong communication and collaboration with all Capilano Group departments,
- Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Team Member Handbook,
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment through professionalism and teamwork,
- Actively promote Capilano Group attractions during park-hosted events and activities,
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Capilano Group of Companies and effectively communicate its offerings to guests.
- Promote a safe work environment including food safety,
- Food safety certification is an asset,
- Polish glassware and cutlery,
- Recycle bottles and waste in correct bins,
- Keep restaurant and storage areas stocked with supplies/product and in an orderly fashion,
- Clean restaurant and banquet equipment,
- Follow all HAACP and Food Safe requirements.
Safety Responsibilities
- Prioritize health and safety by taking reasonable care to protect yourself, co-workers, and guests,
- Follow all Capilano health and safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure work environment,
- Seek additional training before performing any task you are unsure of or have not been trained for,
- Collaborate with the JOHS Committee and support those responsible for Occupational Health and Safety duties,
- Properly use and wear protective clothing, equipment, and devices as required for each task,
- Ensure your ability to work safely is not impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other factors that could pose a risk to yourself or others,
- Stay vigilant of hazards and immediately report any safety concerns, defective equipment, or potential risks to your supervisor,
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by PAV Supervisors or Managers.
Core Competencies:
Communication skills: Must communicate with guests, team members and management in a courteous and professional manner with the ability to follow leadership direction.
Flexibility: Willingness to work a variety of shifts including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Late nights until 1am. (2am and 3am on occasion) to meet the needs of the business,
Work Efficiency: Must be able to work with minimal amount of supervision, manage time efficiently and handle multiple tasks. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work quickly and efficiently with quick turnarounds.
Working with others: Works well with others in a team setting. Assisting one another in completing tasks with a positive and friendly attitude.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one-year prior banquet serving experience,
- Must have current Serving It Right certification,
- Must have excellent people skills with a positive & upbeat personality,
- Previous experience in the food service industry is considered an asset,
- Excellent organizational skills,
- Efficient multi-tasking and time management skills,
- Previous experience with cashier and/or POS considered an asset.
- Professionally groomed appearance.
Working Conditions:
- Required to be on their feet for extended periods of time,
- Required to lift and carry up to 25 - 30lbs (including chairs, tables, etc.),
- Occasionally required to lift and climb a step ladder or step stool.
