Hospitality Training Instructor, Front of House

Position Overview

As the Hospitality Training Instructor, Front of House for HTA 75, you will be responsible for leading the cohort coordination, in-class instruction, and documentation of hospitality front-of-house training programs, including banquet and restaurant server training programs as well as supporting outreach and follow-up efforts. Your role will ensure that instructional programs fulfill employment and training outcomes that align with HTA 75's vision and mission, collaborating closely with a team of program coordinators and support staff to ensure all program participants receive the support they need throughout their employment and training journey.

The successful candidate will have expert skills and proven experience in banquet/event serving, restaurant service, and beverage service. While experience in instructional design, adult employment skills training, and learner support is considered a strong asset, we welcome candidates with a passion for teaching and a willingness to learn. You must also demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, identify and mitigate learner and program risks, and take initiative when facing challenges. Strong computer proficiency is essential, including learning new software programs that support organization and program outcomes. In addition, a considerable understanding of current equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging practices is critical for building a strong culture of caring within the organization.

Key Accountabilities

Provide in-class instruction and facilitation by:

  • Delivering food services front of house and hospitality vocational training programs, webinars, and workshops online and in-person, including HTA 75's banquet and restaurant server training programs;
  • Providing accessible training that meets the needs of participants with diverselearning styles, literacy levels, and communication;
  • Monitoring and evaluating participant performance during training and create individual learning plans to improve learning and performance outcomes; and
  • Offering employability recommendations to the team based on observations and feedback from participants.

Provide overall program management by:

  • Supporting outreach and engagement efforts with community organizations and members, including attending events such as job fairs, outreach days, and other public engagement activities;
  • Responding to prospective and current participant inquiries promptly and provide necessary information;
  • Developing and implementing baseline intake and outcome reports to monitor progress;
  • Conducting regular course evaluations to identify areas for improvement for each cohort;
  • Enhancing training and learning curriculums, modules, and programs based on feedback from employers, industry partners, and participants;
  • Coordinating logistics and planning of training programs, including inventory and supply management and course materials;
  • Developing communications materials related to program delivery and outreach in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, and Programs Team;
  • Accurately tracking and recording all data in Salesforce, including attendance, assessments, evaluations, and outcomes;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with employer partners to promote training programs and encourage enrollment from incumbent workers;and
  • Representing HTA 75 in all public spaces, including conferences, networking events, and other community and industry outreach opportunities.

Analyze employment trends and best practices by:

  • Conducting research on best practices, emerging employment trends, and new job requirements in the employment services and hospitality industry;
  • Collaborating with the Programs team to develop and implement strategies based on research findings;
  • Staying up-to-date with current events, changes in legislation, and advancements in the field to inform program development and delivery; and
  • Utilizing research to inform program design, curriculum development, and training delivery methods.

Role Requirements

  • This is an in-person position and requires attendance at our head office and training centre, various training sites, employer properties, and other meeting spaces across the Greater Toronto Area.
  • This position will require work outside of standard business hours. HTA 75 programs reflect the needs of the hospitality workforce and its availability for training and support.
  • This position will be required to work evenings and weekends.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Expert skills in the hospitality industry, with proven experience in event banquet service, restaurant service, and beverage service.
  • Proven experience in adult teaching, vocational training, or mentorship with a focus on skills training.
  • Ability to work with communities of diverse backgrounds and vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in creating blended learning content that supports participant skill development for employment.
  • Excellent communication, human relations, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office skills, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, meeting technologies (i.e.. Zoom and Microsoft Teams), and instructional platforms such as LMS systems and engagement tools.
  • Committed to working collaboratively in a team environment and participating in consultative decision-making processes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This role will receive an competitive annual salary of$65,000 - 70,000 CAD (pro-rated through the length of the contract, if applicable)
