Summary:
Working alongside the Licensed Truck and Coach Technicians, the Apprentice will learn on the job as well as in school through block study periods.
The team looks after the maintenance and repair of MacEwen fleet, including inspections, repairs, routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, such as a tractor-trailers, petroleum trucks, farm equipment, and pick-up trucks
Responsibilities:
- To work in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
As the Apprentice learns more, so the role will grow to include all of the following:
- Provide vehicle troubleshooting and diagnostic repairs.
- Undertake all phases of truck and trailer maintenance, including but not limited to: oil changes, inspections, brake and shoe replacement, suspension repair and replacement, air and electrical trouble shooting and repair, clutch adjustments and replacement, rear end and transmission replacement, minor engine repair, heating and air conditioning repair.
- Install new and add-on equipment.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs to equipment to ensure that the equipment is available, reliable, and safe to operate.
- Test installed or repaired equipment to ensure optimum performance.
- Monitor parts usage, reporting on any materials issues.
- Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Commit to personal safety and the safety of others. Commit to ensuring safe working conditions and adherence to occupational health and safety regulations.
- Perform other vehicle maintenance work. e.g., Cleaning and lubricating.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
- Assist in the preparation of preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Any other duties that can reasonably be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience working on large equipment is highly desirable.
- A strong work ethic and determination to succeed are essential.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Other:
- Valid driver's license.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Occasional travel to off-site locations may be required.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
