About this Role

We are currently seeking a Commercial Building Operator to join our team in Ottawa. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical troubleshooting of our various buildings and responding to the various day-to-day needs of each building. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all employees, tenants, homeowners, customers, managers, and subcontractors. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Taggart Realty Management vision and mission and must comply with all company policies and procedures. The Commercial building operator will also be called upon occasionally by the Facilities group to assist and/or provide input regarding major capital projects and/or building system issues. This position will also work with the operations team in identifying/testing new procedures and improving current processes that, in turn, support the strategy and goals of Taggart Realty Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive, professional customer service and build strong tenant relationships.
  • Respond promptly to service requests, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure smooth building operations.
  • Maintain the property's appearance, safety, and functionality; conduct regular inspections and log maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and maintain building systems (HVAC, boilers, pumps, electrical, plumbing, etc.), ensuring preventative maintenance and energy efficiency.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and liaise with contractors and trades for equipment/system repairs, servicing, and maintenance.
  • Ensure all building systems and service contracts are up to date and in compliance with company policies.
  • Collaborate with the Property/Facilities Manager to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Provide after-hours support on a rotational basis and adhere to health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Commercial or Residential Building Operator is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in a mechanical or trade-related field is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building operations, HVAC, BAS, Fire Alarm Systems, and building envelope construction.
  • Ability to read drawings, understand scopes of work, and assess system suitability.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with BAS systems is an asset.
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude with the ability to use hand/electric tools.
  • WHMIS, Working at Heights, and Health & Safety experience or training is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and multitasking skills; detail- and deadline-oriented.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Valid Class G drivers license and willingness to travel within the city.

Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment:

Working primarily in an office environment, there will also be work in a construction environment related to site inspections and monitoring, including working outdoors.

Accessing roofs, climbing ladders and working in noisy / inclement weather will be on occasion required. Provide service to multiple people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.

Willingness to be mobile and to travel to various sites as required. The role requires work to be performed primarily on-site, but will require periods in the office.

Overtime may be required on an occasional basis in order to meet the changing demands of the project(s).
