Who are we looking for?
Were looking for a Head of People and Talent to lead and scale our people strategy across two affiliated entities in our Toronto office, each with approximately 2025 team members. This role is both strategic and hands-on shaping culture, supporting leadership, and ensuring operational excellence across HR, recruitment, payroll, employee experience and retention, and office operations. The ideal candidate is a builder who thrives in dynamic environments and is excited to lay the foundation for future growth.This is a hybrid role (2-3 days in office) based in our Liberty Village office in Toronto.
Duties and Responsibilities
People and Culture Leadership
- Develop and execute a people strategy that aligns with business priorities across both entities
- Partner with senior leadership on org design, team structure, and workforce planning
- Champion a strong, inclusive culture and a high-performing, people-first environment
- Create and maintain people policies and programs that support compliance, engagement, and development
- Act as a trusted advisor on employee relations, performance, and growth
Recruitment and Talent
- Own and manage full-cycle recruitment for both entities, from sourcing to offer
- Collaborate with hiring managers to define roles, streamline hiring processes, and ensure great candidate experience
- Build and maintain a strong employer brand to attract top talent
- Track hiring metrics and provide insights to support planning and decision-making
Employee Experience and HR Operations
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a seamless and consistent experience
- Implement and manage learning, development, and compliance training programs
- Maintain accurate employee data in the HRIS and generate people reports as needed
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions on policies, workplace issues, and general HR matters
Payroll and Benefits
- Oversee administration of payroll for both entities in coordination with Finance, ensuring timely and accurate processing
- Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, wellness, and other offerings
- Act as the go-to person for employee questions related to compensation, time off, and benefits
- Lead the annual benefits renewal and communication process
Office and Workplace Operations
- Oversee day-to-day office operations (currently within a WeWork) to support a productive, collaborative environment
- Manage space planning and coordinate with WeWork on facilities and services
- Plan and execute internal events that foster team connection and reinforce company culture
- Support cross-functional initiatives that involve workplace or people strategy
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in HR or People roles, including at least 2 years in a management or leadership capacity within a dynamic, growth-oriented environment
- Strong knowledge of core HR functionsrecruitment, employee relations, performance, compensation, benefits, payroll, and compliancewith hands-on execution across all areas
- Strategic mindset paired with a builders mentality equally comfortable driving high-level initiatives and diving into the details to get things done
- Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership with sound judgment, discretion, and strong communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook) and experienced with HR systems (e.g., BambooHR); familiarity with Canadian employment law is required, U.S. experience is a plus
- Highly organized, resourceful, and proactive, with a track record of building processes from the ground up and thriving in ambiguity
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure is a plus but not required.
