Summary

Westcoast Family Centres Society ('Westcoast') is looking to expand its Finance Department by adding a permanent part-time (21 hours per week) Accountant to the team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions required to produce monthly and quarterly financial statements. Strong communication skills, good work ethic, analytical thinking, a degree in accounting and at least 3 years of experience are required. CPA qualification or pursuit of CPA qualification considered an asset.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform the day-to-day full cycle accounting and assist with overseeing the work of the Junior Accountant.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and all working papers.
  • Coordinate and prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Assist in budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Prepare working papers and account reconciliations for year-end financial statements and year end audits.
  • Review, enter and manage visa reconciliation, AP, and AR., inventory control, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare Remittances for GST.
  • Reconcile G/L and produce required working papers.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Collect, interpret, and report financial data.
  • Follow CICA guidelines for non-profit societies, and incorporate recommendations made by the auditor and use professional judgment to initiate and monitor controls as needed.
  • Assist in preparing the budgets for external grant and proposal applications when necessary.
  • Other job duties as required.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to work autonomously, with a high degree of composure and sound judgement.
  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Background in non-profit sector an asset.


Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline (i.e., finance, business).
  • CPA qualification or pursuit of CPA qualification considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of related accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Maintain clear Criminal Record Check.
