THE ROLE

A growing legal team is seeking a highly organized and experienced Legal Assistant with a minimum of five years of experience in corporate/commercial and/or Indigenous/Aboriginal law. This role supports a team that advises Indigenous leadership and entrepreneurs on a wide range of commercial ventures rooted in Indigenous worldviews.

The successful candidate will play an essential role in advancing legal work in areas such as forestry, fisheries, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, real estate development and leasing (both on and off-reserve), and corporate/commercial law. The position also includes a strong focus on governance, Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and a wide range of business law matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to a partner and associates within the Corporate Commercial and Indigenous law practice.
  • Draft, format, and proofread legal documents including agreements, contracts, and governance documents.
  • Assist with corporate transactions and related documentation, including closings and post-closing activities.
  • Coordinate and manage client communication, meeting schedules, and calendars.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and paper filing systems to ensure documentation is accurate and accessible.
  • Support legal research, report preparation, and file management related to Indigenous governance and commercial initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of deadlines and ensure all legal procedures are followed in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum five years of relevant legal assistant experience in corporate/commercial or Indigenous/Aboriginal law.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal issues relating to Indigenous governance, rights, and commercial activities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and legal document management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal program is considered an asset.
