Job Summary:
As a Quality Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring, verifying, and testing incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products against the requirements of ISO9001/IATF-16949, ISO/IEC 17025 quality system standards and customer requirements. You will also be involved in calibrating plant and lab gauges, and, when possible, ensuring that test equipment and instruments meet the required standards. Additionally, you will contribute to documenting and communicating all quality-related issues, as well as supporting research and development activities and addressing non-conforming products.
Job Responsibilities:
- Quality Control Processes: Develop, implement, and maintain quality control processes and procedures to ensure that all manufacturing activities comply with quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Inspections and Testing: Conduct inspections and perform testing on raw materials and finished products to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications, including visual inspections, measurements, and functional testing using various testing equipment and tools.
- Statistical Process Control (SPC): Use statistical process control techniques to monitor and analyze production processes, identify trends, and detect deviations from quality standards.
- Root Cause Analysis: Identify the underlying causes of defects or non-conformities and work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions to address root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Quality Improvement Initiatives: Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce defects. Implement lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other quality improvement tools and techniques.
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document all quality-related activities, including inspection reports, test results, non-conformance reports, and corrective action plans.
- Analysis: Provide support to the generation of quality metrics, data analysis, and preparation of reports to monitor quality performance and identify trends or areas for improvement.
- Customer Satisfaction: Prioritize customer satisfaction by ensuring that products meet or exceed customer expectations for quality, reliability, and performance. Work closely with internal and external teams to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Research and Development: Support the research and development of new products, ensuring to follow the APQP guidelines.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: Post-secondary education in Quality Assurance, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. Relevant certifications in quality management systems are beneficial.
- Minimum 1-3 years experience in a similar role. Prior experience in an automotive manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with the technology involved in manufacturing materials, products, and items being tested, as well as how they are used or intended to be used, and an understanding of potential defects or degradation that may occur during production or use.
- Knowledge of the properties of plastic and rubber, along with a solid foundation in laboratory testing principles and/or several years of relevant experience in quality system inspections.
- Understanding of the general requirements outlined in legislation and standards, and the ability to recognize and interpret deviations from normal usage for the materials, products, and items in question.
- Knowledge and experience in using tools like 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and solve quality issues.
- Knowledge of ISO standards (such as ISO 9001), industry-specific quality standards like IATF 16949, and other regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge and adherence to health and safety regulations, including the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to utilize various applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Proficient in data recording, document control, and records maintenance, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation of quality inspections, test results, and compliance reports.
- Ability to conduct non-conformance reviews, identifying and analyzing any deviations from quality standards, determining root causes, and collaborating with relevant teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence of issues.
- Strong decision-making ability, with the capability to assess situations, identify potential risks or quality issues, and take appropriate actions to ensure product standards are met and production processes remain efficient.
