We are currently seeking to hire a Health and Safety Co-op student to join our team at one of our Scarborough Mill locations (333 Progress).
A service-driven paper and packaging products company, Atlantic Packaging has grown to become one of Canada's largest paper manufacturers and a leading producer of packaging products. Our organization employs approximately 2000 people at eight manufacturing plants and four distribution centers.
We are currently seeking (1) Health, and Safety Co-op student to join our team at Atlantic Packaging.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director Health and Safety, the HSE Co-Op student will assist on Health & Safety projects, data collection, corporate programs and other day-to-day HSE tasks. This position will provide excellent exposure to HS management systems.
Duration: Prefer 8-12 months, min 4 months
Location: Scarborough with some travel across GTA (10%)
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to the creation of and/or maintenance of instructional documents, such as work procedures and training documents, Standard Operating Procedures as per priority and immediate requirements,
Conduct Hazard Assessments, through task analysis, risk assessments and workplace inspections; Recommending and/or implementing corrective actions
Assist in migration of existing Lockout Tagout sheets to new format.
Contractor Compliance – Coordinating with departments and contractors to ensure all employees meet compliance requirements.
Safety Training Coordination – Assisting in organizing and tracking safety training sessions.
Provide general support and assistance to the HSE Specialists
Maintain relevant H&S Documents and Records
Compile Monthly Reports and statistics
Liaise with plant staff
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a university level undergraduate degree program in Occupational Health & Safety or a similar discipline
Knowledge of OHS and government legislation and codesProactive & dynamic attitude focused on delivering results
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
Excellent written (technical writing) and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Proficiency with all Microsoft Applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Previous manufacturing or industrial experience will be considered an asset
Desire to be hands on and “on the floor”
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and able to travel in GTA
