Katzie First Nation's Territorial Guardianship and Referrals (TGR) Department is seeking a dedicated Project Accountant. The TGR Department leads various projects, including the revitalization of Katzie Law, caretaking of ancestral belongings, and construction monitoring. The Project Accountant will manage and oversee the financial aspects of these projects, ensuring alignment with Katzies financial tracking system. Reporting to the Director of Territorial Guardianship and Referrals this role will work closely with members of TGR and collaborate with the finance department for necessary adjustments.
What You'll Do:
- Leading the tracking of revenue and expenses on multiple budgets and grants, including regular invoices, reporting, contract spending, etc.
- Leading updates to the departments operational budget, based on project budgets and comparing this regularly to Katzies finance tracking system (adagio).
- Transitioning TGR finance tracking into the KFN Finance tracking system (Adagio).
- Monitor budgets of all programs and projects, provide variances reports and collaborate with the Finance and TGR staff to adjust where necessary
- Conduct regular quality assurance to ensure that charges are in the appropriate accounts.
- Working with the department to update departmental financial guidelines and processes when necessary
- Working with the department administration to establish a departmental financial management system to account for 510-year departmental budget planning, forecasting, and investment of departmental source revenue.
What you bring to Katzie:
- Knowledge gained through completing a degree in finance or a related field, plus three years of relevant, progressive work experience in first nations or nonprofit environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP), Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, tax laws, and grant reporting requirements
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Adagio or other ERP systems is an asset.
- Experience with Grant funding preferred.
- Experience in finance project management for land-based work (i.e. development, habitat restoration and enhancement, contractor management etc.)
- Attention to detail and excellent time management skills to manage work in an efficient and timely manner and provide high-quality work.
- Experience developing strong working relationships with all business units and department leaders while assisting them in achieving strategic and financial priorities.
- Flexibility and the ability to handle a diverse and complex workload respectfully, timely, and effectively responding to requests and queries.
