As part of a larger system to solve homelessness, the Street Outreach Worker will connect with individuals/ families experiencing homelessness in Oxford County through rapport and relationship building. In working collaboratively with clients, staff and community partners, this role will provide community outreach to connect individuals/ families to resources based on needs. This role will strive to find a balanced approach between compassion and self determination, with the ultimate goal of working to help individuals/ families secure housing when it becomes available.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 3 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
    • Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
    • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated)
    • For internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
  • When you'll work – 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
  • What your benefits will be - 9% in lieu of benefits
  • Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Provide Support through Community Outreach
  • Build rapport and relationships with individuals/families experiencing homelessness and sleeping outdoors
  • Make warm transfers for individuals/ families to help find and secure safe, suitable, affordable housing
  • Provide individuals/families sleeping in encampments with fire prevention education
  • Support, advocate and refer individuals/families with appropriate services, supports and resources according to their needs including food security and harm reduction materials
  • Connect individuals experiencing homelessness to the by-names list for reporting purposes
  • Liaise with professionals and with the community while adhering to the principle of confidentiality
  • Able to build positive relationships with other colleagues and support cohesiveness and positivity for team building
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Direct Service:
  • Promote empowerment and self-determination of others through non-judgmental listening and assertive engagement
  • Connect individuals/families to resources in their community
  • Meet with individuals/families to determine support needs and housing goals
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals
  • Maintain statistical records associated with program functions according to agency guidelines
  • Complete administrative duties and documentation as required
  • Attend CMHA team and staff meetings
  • Participate in relevant committee meetings
  • Carry out the policies and procedures of CMHA TVAMHS as set forth in the Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Other duties as required

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

We Require the Following Qualifications:

  • University/College Degree or Diploma in the Social Science field (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process, i.e. original degree/diploma/certificate or official transcript)
  • Valid Driver's License, adequate insurance and access to a vehicle to carry out job duties
  • Ability to attend work regularly

We Prefer the Following Qualifications:
  • 1 year of work experience in the mental health field
  • Experience working with homeless/marginalized populations
  • Experience working with community partners
  • Experience working with housing partners
  • Knowledge of the complex challenges faced by those without stable housing
  • Knowledge of By-Names List, Coordinated Access
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Crisis intervention and prevention
  • Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and associated Acts
  • Training in crisis intervention and resolution including ASIST and First Aid/CPR
  • Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
