Recognized throughout Southwestern Ontario as a leader in childrens (birth-18 years) mental health, Vanier Childrens Mental Wellness provides innovative treatment programs and services for children, experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges. As a registered charity and not-for-profit agency, Vanier has been in operation for over 54 years and is funded by the Ontario government. Vanier Children's Mental Wellness mission is to improve the lives of infants, children, and their families through the provision of mental health services based on clinical excellence, collaboration, partnerships, and system leadership. Appointed by the Ontario Government as Lead Agency for Child/Youth Mental Health (CYMH) System Management in London-Middlesex (2014), Vanier is also accountable for community-wide Child/Youth Mental Health System Planning (MCYS: Moving on Mental Health).

Position Summary:

Child & Family Therapist (CFT) provides direct mental health services to children and their families. This role includes provision of individual, family, and group therapy utilizing a wide range of treatment modalities within the multidisciplinary context, with emphasis on attachment based, trauma informed interventions, and brief counselling modalities and strategies. The CFT will provide a wide range of services described above, including single-session therapy in Talk in Clinics in both London and Middlesex.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Masters degree in social work, Psychology, or relevant from a university with recognized standing.
  • Experience within at least one model/area of specialization in child or family therapy.
  • Previous clinical experience working with children and families.
  • Training in a variety of treatment modalities, including a supervised practicum in one of the areas of child development or family development and functioning.
  • Previous experience providing family therapy.
  • Experience working with the early years population is an asset.
  • Registration in good standing with a professional college, ex. OCSWSSW or CRPO (Qualifying candidates will be provided supervision according to Vanier supervision policies).

Job Duties:

  • Interviews children and their families, completes mental health assessments, explains assessment to family and seeks agreement on suggested treatment goals.
  • Provides treatment to children and families on a regular counseling basis utilizing family or individual formats as dictated by the case conference recommendations; offers group therapy when available.
  • Deals with client crises which may require meeting with the child and family, consulting with the supervisor and referring client to other centers.
  • Facilitates parent and childrens groups as required and completes appropriate documentation including evaluation measures.
  • Conducts regular case conferences with all active clients to review treatment progress, treatment strategies and develop new goals with either a case conference team or a supervisor.
  • Schedules and invites outside professionals to attend assessments, case conferences and therapy meetings as dictated by the needs of a family and as determined by the intensity of the therapy program.
  • Records all treatment contacts including assessment summaries, case conference summaries, any telephone facetoface contacts with family members and outside professionals, treatment review summaries, termination summaries, group, individual, and family therapy contacts in accordance with the case management manual.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Type:

  • Fixed term contract, covering a maternity leave.

Start Date:

  • May 26, 2025.

Salary:

  • $32.50 - $40.87 per hour.

Hours of work:

  • 35-hour work week, flexible schedule days and evenings required.
