The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Metals department within the Maintenance team for a Crane Operator located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The purpose of this position is to perform ongoing maintenance activities within the Utilities, Nickel, Cobalt, and Fertilizer plants. Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, the Crane Operator is responsible for ensuring the proper set-up, configuration, and operation of cranes in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and supporting safe and efficient maintenance processes across all areas.
In this role, you will be accountable for:
  • Performing pre-operational inspections, calculating crane capacities, and determining load weights to ensure safe rigging and hoisting.
  • Operating cranes and hoisting equipment to lift, move, position, and place equipment and materials at work sites.
  • Conducting routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and preparing cranes, trucks, and equipment for daily operations.
  • Ensuring accurate load calculations and safe crane operation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
Skills and attributes for success:
  • Valid Alberta Dual Journeyperson Trade Certificate with Crane Operator as the primary ticket and a secondary ticket, preferably in Boilermaking, Welding, or Pipefitting.
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial plant experience is preferred.
  • Valid Class 1 Driver's License required.
  • Ability to direct, coach, and mentor apprentices as needed.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with clients and team members.
  • Operate equipment independently with a high level of competency and minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, as required
