Esports Media Lead
Temporary Full-Time (1 year contract)
Up to 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday Evenings, with occasional Days and Weekends
Summary
The Esports Media Lead is responsible for managing the live broadcast production, content creation, and social media presence of the Fuel Esports program. Reporting to the Esports Coordinator, the Esports Media Lead ensures professional-quality streaming and media production while adhering to industry, league, and program standards.
This role also supports the supervision and training of work-study students, volunteers, and work-integrated learning participants in media-related tasks. Additionally, the Esports Media Lead serves as the night-time supervisor for The Fuel Station, overseeing all productions and ensuring a seamless operational experience.
Job Duties
- Produce high-quality esports live streams of matches, events, and related content on platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, and TV.
- Ensure all broadcasts comply with league, game title, and program guidelines, as well as privacy and copyright laws.
- Oversee scheduling and production of On-Air Casters and other production team members.
- Lead the production and delivery of creative assets for Fuel Esports, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and at a high quality.
- Work with the Esports Coordinator to develop compelling content and sponsorship opportunities.
- Stay ahead of emerging broadcasting and production technologies to enhance Fuel Esports' media output.
- Utilize video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro) for content production.
- Create and manage graphics and overlay designs using software such as Photoshop, After Effects, and InDesign.
Social Media & Marketing
- Develop and implement social media strategies, in collaboration with the Esports Coordinator and the Student Engagement team, to promote esports events and engage the gaming community.
- Manage Fuel Esports social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Discord), ensuring consistent branding and audience interaction.
- Work with the Esports Coordinator and Student Engagement team to analyze engagement metrics and refine marketing strategies.
Event Execution & Logistics Support
- Assist in planning and executing esports tournaments, events, and promotional campaigns.
- Coordinate event logistics, including setup, technical support, and live production management.
- Maintain The Fuel Station and broadcast studio, ensuring all hardware and software are properly maintained and operational.
- Conduct basic troubleshooting and daily upkeep of audio-visual and broadcasting equipment.
- Ensure security and proper handling of all technical equipment.
- Collaborate with the Esports Coordinator to manage scheduling for Fuel teams using The Fuel Station.
Training & Team Support
- Assist in the supervision and training of work-study students, volunteers, and work-integrated learning participants in esports media production.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to support skill development in streaming, production, and content creation.
- Assign media-related tasks as needed to support the Esports team.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Support the Esports Coordinator with various administrative duties related to media operations.
- Engage with collegiate esports leagues and membership groups to identify learning and networking opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and maintain a professional working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Fuel Esports operations.
Requirements
Post-secondary diploma in Television/Radio Broadcast, Multimedia Production, Live Event Production, Esports Event & Marketing, Marketing & Communications, Social Media Management, Business, Interactive Media & Design, Computer & Applied Sciences, or a related field.
Two years of experience in one or more of the following:
* Esports streaming (e.g., Twitch, YouTube)
* Media production & broadcasting
* Shoutcasting & esports commentary
* Videography & online content creation
* Social media content management
* Technology-driven classroom or training environments
Strong understanding of audio-visual products and troubleshooting techniques.
Experience with A/V components, streaming media, and multi-zone/multi-room audio systems is an asset.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and email communication.
Strong organizational, strategic planning, and project management skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
