Job DescriptionThe Professional Practice Clinician – Respiratory Therapy will report to the Program Director Cancer and Critical Care as well as the Director of Professional Practice & Chief Practice Information Officer. They will act as a clinical resource/expert to Respiratory Therapy staff (inpatient and outpatient areas) and will provide clinical teaching to Respiratory Therapy staff based on best practice to maximize the quality of care. The Respiratory Therapy Professional Practice Clinician will promote inter-professional collaboration among all care teams and will support Respiratory Therapy staff in achieving ongoing continuing education.
- Provides clinical teaching and staff development focusing on clinical education for Respiratory Therapy staff.
- Facilitates and expedites continuous learning and professional development through educating, coaching, and mentoring.
- Provides consultation to various team members on professional practice standards and evidence-based best practices.
- Maintains a current knowledge base regarding best practice and leading edge technology in the area of practice and clinical programs; draws upon contemporary evidence and/or research-based practice methods and standards.
- Develops, reviews, and revises policies and procedures related to professional practice and clinical care, and provides supporting education and evaluation.
- Develops and monitors quality indicators within the program and actively participates in quality improvement activities.
- Assists staff in identifying learning needs.
- Co-ordinates, designs, develops, implements and evaluates education materials for new and existing staff
- Monitors staff competencies and clinical practice on an ongoing basis.
- As a member of the Office of Professional Practice, collaborates with the other PPCs to plan and provide the Inter-professional Orientation Program; coordinates and assists with quality management and educational initiatives at program and corporate levels, including nursing skill development/education related to respiratory assessment/practice.
- Facilitates the placement and positive experience of Respiratory Therapy students throughout the program.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for promoting a work environment that exemplifies respect, inter-professional and ethical practice, professional autonomous decision-making, and maximized scopes of practice.
- Serves as a role model and leader to support Respiratory Therapy care that optimizes patient outcomes and experiences while enhancing safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Participates in community and regional initiatives that have a direct relationship to the Programs.
- Performs regular quality monitoring audits to determine compliance to standards of practice and standards of care.
- Implements follow-up improvements as necessary.
- Responsible for leading and/or participating in respiratory related projects, as assigned.
- Models professional practice through participation in ongoing education activities, professional certification, membership in a professional organizations (CSRT, RTSO) and reflective practice.
- Disseminates knowledge through publications in professional journals and presentations at provincial, national and international conferences.
- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) required
- Advanced Diploma in Respiratory Therapy required
- Baccalaureate Degree required
- Registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario (RTSO) required
- Preparation at the Master's level or actively pursuing preferred
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated current clinical experience in an acute hospital environment
- Experience as an educator including the ability to design and deliver educational programs and evaluate outcomes is an asset
- Skilled in the application of adult learning principles, critical thinking, change management, and project management is an asset
- Knowledge of professional practice issues, standards of practice, best practice guidelines and clinical management tools required
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills required
- Innovative, creative and professional role model required
- Ability to prioritize/organize multiple projects with strict deadlines required
- Ability to work autonomously and as a part of a collaborative team required
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position required
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
Additional Information
Hours: Monday to Friday; Days; (Hours subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $51.537 to $63.851 per hour
