Principal Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe, positive enriching environment for children through play and age-appropriate activities
- Engage in active observation of children's play ensuring that this observation and pedagogical documentation are the basis for program planning
- Assists with program planning and implementing program activities with staff person in program
- Ensures the rooms are properly set up for each session
- Ensure accurate records are kept of all programs including: attendance record, sign-in sheets, registration forms, privacy forms, and incident reports
- Provides guidance, encouragement and support to volunteers and student placements
- Role models positive child-adult interactions during group sessions
- Welcomes and communicates with parents as needed about issues relevant to their child (i.e. behaviors, information about resources, referring to other services, etc.)
- Ensures program space is cleaned up after each session, and that mouthed toys are disinfected
- Follows Guelph CHC's Actions, Beliefs and Commitments
- Participate in ongoing professional development to keep up to date with best practices
- Engage in reflective practice with team members
- Maintain a positive rapport with parents, co-workers, student teachers and professionals with in the organization and host sites
Working Environment
- Varies from site to site with locations all over Guelph & Wellington County
- Noise levels may be moderate to high
- Moderate to high stress for intermittent periods depending on number and nature of children present
- Multi-tasking pressures required during program
Required Qualifications
- Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Experience working with groups of children and parents
- A working understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
- Working knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as stipulated by the College of Early Childhood Educator
- Working knowledge of "How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years"
- Good communication and listening skills with both children and adults
- Highly motivated and energetic, reliable and committed
- Understand the need for confidentiality in dealing with clients
- Experience with MS Office
- Access to vehicle
