Position Summary

This position will report directly to the Director, Fund Development and Alumni Engagement.

The Manager, Fundraising & Alumni Relations will lead the strategic planning and direction of fundraising and alumni relations initiatives and campaigns in in alignment with the priorities and strategic plan of the college. This role will also maintain their own pipeline to meet fundraising targets and alumni relations metrics.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Team Development
Exercises overall managerial direction of the area of responsibility with available resources for the purpose of delivering high-quality service to the College Leadership Team that advances the Colleges strategic goals.
Provides overall supervision to the Fundraising and Alumni Relations teams.
Recruits and hires staff to meet the changing needs of the departments.
o Writes and reviews job descriptions, recruitment action forms
o Reviews postings and interview scripts
o Shortlists candidates, establishes interviews panels
o Evaluates candidates and selects candidate to be hired
Responsible for the supervision, evaluation, scheduling, disciplining, performance management and motivation of direct staff to ensure optimal service is maintained:
o Providing direction and feedback for employees work.
o Performance appraisals on direct reports
o Identifies and takes corrective action on performance issues.
o Coaching staff, including first-level performance management conversations, on performance issues.
o Escalating and discussing performance and discipline concerns with the Associate Director and/or Human Resources when the issues move beyond first-level performance management.
o Approves and monitors vacation and other applicable absence requests and overtime of direct reports within budget parameters.
o Develops employees in the competencies and technical requirements of their work; determines appropriate professional development; ensures that new staff are appropriately orientated and trained. Maintenance of Agresso absence reports, vacation and other absence approvals.
o Interprets and applies the terms of relevant collective agreements and represents management in responding to grievances of employees
Creates, maintains and monitors annual goals / deliverables for areas of responsibility accountability based on institutional strategic priorities and manages staff to successful completion of the goals.
Develops, manages, and monitors financial budgets for areas of responsibility, including developing business cases when needed, for the most effective use of budget dollars.
Manages and supervises the work of direct reports to ensure effective and consistent service. This includes having regular individual or team meetings as appropriate.
Exercises overall authority to assign/reassign work of employees based on operational needs to deliver on the goals of the department and the College.
Reviews work, as necessary, prior to distribution to stakeholders.
Collaborates and carries joint responsibility with the other members of the Fund Development leadership team to provide for effective operation of the team.
Ensures compliance with applicable College policy and procedure, government legislation, regulations and guidelines.
Investigates, leads the response to, and reports to the Colleges privacy office on privacy breach incidents for areas of responsibility.
Proposes revisions to College procedures and gives input on revisions to College policies associated with areas of responsibility.
Represents Fund Development on College and external committees as appropriate.
Maintains effective and positive relationships with relevant stakeholders across the College and in the community.

Strategic Fundraising Management
Collaborates with the Director to develop short and long-term strategic fundraising plans and priorities that align with the Colleges Strategic Plan and campaign development to incorporate annual/major/legacy giving, corporate sponsorships, and specialized campaigns.
Has and maintains knowledge and insight of fundraising trends.
Works with advancement operations team to streamline processes and maximize opportunities to increase fundraising philanthropic relationships, including donor relations, gift processing, and prospect research and pipeline management.
Develops and manages the Fundraising portfolio business plan, including development of targets, stewardship, and retention strategies.
Contributes to the achievement of the Colleges fundraising targets by maintaining a major gift giving pipeline.

Strategic Alumni Relations
Collaborates with the Director to develop short and long-term strategic plans and priorities that align with the Colleges Strategic Plan and campaign development to build out sustainable alumni engagement opportunities that include programming (i.e. events), communications (i.e. quarterly newsletter, social media), data management (i.e. alumni record keeping), and prospecting (i.e. identifying alumni for giving, volunteer opportunities).
Continually assesses current alumni programs and identify new initiatives that most efficiently and effectively promote the Bow Valley College to alumni and that connect alumni back to us.
Has and maintains knowledge and insight of alumni trends.
Supports the Alumni Relations team to build and maintain pipelines of alumni for engagement opportunities, as well as cultivate and maintain their own relationships with alumni.
Working with College-wide leaders, including Deans, Program Leads, to ensure effective alumni engagement strategies are undertaken and that they leverage resources and align across the institution to maximize efficiency and opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in nonprofit management or related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years proven successful experience in the areas of fundraising and development.
Proven capital/fundraising campaign experience.
Experience in major gifts, sponsorships, naming, annual giving with a proven success history.
An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
Ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications
5-10 years of related experience.
CFRE accreditation (desired).
Advanced oral and written communication skills are mandatory, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously within a short timeline.
Possesses superior leadership, people management and coaching/mentoring skills.
Ability to influence.
Visionary, strategic planner.
Experience working with senior volunteers and corporate leaders.
Proficient computer skills in database management (e.g., Raisers Edge) and Microsoft Office
Comprehensive relationship building experience.
Strong knowledge and connections within the Calgary community and local philanthropic environment.
Member in good standing with AFP and/or CAGP.
