POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Wood Machine Operator is responsible for performing routine and varied tasks in alignment with production processes within the wood machining department. The Wood Machine Operator will be required to support their job functions while cross-training on positions as required, and will be required to comply with SOPs and quality standards of products while adhering to Health & Safety and BRC policies on a consistent basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Openly participates in educational and cross-training responsibilities as applicable to the position.
  • Sets up and operates Woodworking Machinery including CNC's, Edge banders and/ or Panel Saws.
  • Completes CNC Programming, Edgebanding Programming, and/or Panel Saw Programming.
  • Follows work order procedures while ensuring safe operating practices are met.
  • Maintains production quality-based companies' criteria.
  • Understands and reads drawings, sketches, BOMs, and performs dimensional inspections using tape measures.
  • Follows standard daily and preventative maintenance procedures such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, replacing parts and tooling as necessary.
  • Monitors the machinery production lines and troubleshoots issues in the software as they arise; determines and reports product and equipment malfunctions to Production Supervisor or Plant Manager.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Prioritizes quality control, ensuring parts meet defined standards, collecting necessary components for each order, and inspecting pieces for defects
  • Performs all work to BRC standards and instructions and ensures final product meets quality standards.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members to ensure productivity, efficiency, and adherence to daily and weekly production schedules.
  • Complies with all company health and safety policies and procedures at all times. Without limitation, wears Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace and fosters positive working relationships within the department and BRC through respect, courtesy, and effective communication.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned from time to time at the discretion of management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 - 3 years of CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw Machine operating experience (Co-op and apprenticeship work will be considered).
  • Good understanding of editing CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw programs.
  • Knowledge of CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw blades and tools.
  • Good understanding of good product quality and production methods/ manufacturing practices.
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience, and/or combined post-secondary education experience.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Diploma or certificate courses in CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw machining.
  • Associate degree in machine operation, carpentry, or other woodworking fields.
  • Experience/ knowledge of CNC Programming, Edgebanding Programming, and/or Panel Saw Programming concepts.
  • Experience using a Point-to-Point Router.
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks including those that are physically demanding that require manual dexterity.
  • Able to understand and read drawings/ sketches, BOM, as supplied in shop floor documents.
  • Able to understand and read tape measure and understand how to perform dimensional inspection of parts.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Able to lift materials up to 50 pounds and to carry, move, manipulate and/or position them and to move, bend, twist or maintain awkward body positions while performing work.
  • Has good hand and eye co-ordination and muscular control sufficient to operate tools or equipment and to see closely and/or listen intently in order to achieve very detailed results and/or detect flaws or errors.
  • Able to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Asset to have: Knowledge and experience using HOMAG, SEM, EMIA machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects may be required.
  • Able to work 12:00 am to 7:00 am
  • Will be required to stand for 8 hours a day.
  • May be required to work overtime as required.
  • May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing.
  • May be required to use PPE.
  • Hourly Rate: $23.23 + Midnight shift premium.
