GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTANT – 14 Month Contract - Mississauga, Ontario (onsite)

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and supporting financial reporting activities. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and accruals.

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.

• Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, intercompany transactions, and other general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies.

• Ensure the timely and accurate completion of month-end close procedures, aligning with corporate financial policies and reporting standards.

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.

• Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and variance reporting to identify trends and areas of improvement.

• Assist in preparing financial statements and reports in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

• Maintain compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support audit readiness.

• Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation.

• Analyze financial data and provide insights to management for decision-making.

• Assist with process improvements and system implementations to enhance efficiency.

• Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

These are the standards we look for:

Bachelor's degree (or post-secondary education) in accounting, finance, or a related field.

• CPA designation or pursuing a CPA designation (preferred but not required).

• 3+ years of experience in general ledger accounting or a related role.

• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft applications, PeopleSoft and Microsoft Business Central is a plus.

• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
