This opportunity is open to students looking for work experience. LaPrairie Works can accommodate start dates in May 2025, and is flexible with work term length.

In this role, you will report to our Senior Superintendent Operations, who is a certified engineering technologist, assisting with planning, scheduling, coordinating and performance tracking of the summer highway & bridge maintenance construction season and the preparation process for the winter maintenance season.

You will be exposed to learning opportunities, both in the field and the office, that focus on key procedural and regulatory practices, LEAN management strategies (Kaizen approach), comprehensive health and safety protocols, ISO 9001:2015 quality assurance standards and ISO 14001 environmental standards. These exciting challenges will help you broaden your understanding of effective field applications designed to meet contract specifications and key operational deliverables.

With 40 years experience in the civil infrastructure industry, we can provide you with an in-depth overview of the construction industry and how civil works projects are received, planned, and completed, on-time and on-budget. These experiences will enhance your engineering skillset, and may provide you with an opportunity to join LaPrairie Works full-time upon your graduation.

Duties will include:

  • Providing field technical support to our operational and technical team.
  • Providing Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) field support.
  • Assisting with the monitoring of QA / QC programs, including field testing, site inspections and audits.

  • Inspecting bulk material orders when received and conducting quality assurance testing to confirm that product specifications are met.
  • Supporting LWI safety policies and procedures and reporting all safety concerns to the Operations Superintendent or designate onsite.
  • Travelling to worksites across north-western Alberta and north-eastern British Columbia, using company-provided vehicle.
  • Working indoors in an office setting and outside on construction sites.
  • Working varied shift times depending on project requirements.
  • Completing labourer tasks as necessitated by project technical requirements.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid class 5 license.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel & Word).
  • Ability to travel to remote worksites in LWIs operating footprint.
  • Lifting up to 25 kgs when necessary.
