Position: Innu Midwifery Program Administrator Temporary Full Time

Location: Sheshatshiu, NL

The Innu Round Table Secretariat is dedicated to the collective well-being of Sheshatshiu and Mushuau Innu. Focused on the re-introduction of midwifery to the Labrador Innu communities, the Sheshatshiu and Mushuau Innu First Nations have established the Innu Midwifery Program (IMP) as part of the overall effort to develop and tailor healing strategies to the unique needs of Innu people.

The Innu Midwifery Program understands that for Innu social and health initiatives to succeed, they must be rooted in the community and aligned with the Innu Care Strategy and Innu Care Approach. The program seeks to reintroduce midwifery by drawing on Elders knowledge of traditional Innu birthing practices, providing culturally relevant, hands-on training for Innu midwifery students. By restoring midwifery to Innu communities, the program ensures that Innu babies are born in the care of Innu hands, on Innu land, and within the framework of Innu cultural practices, while empowering women through culturally grounded childbearing experience.

Working fulltime in Sheshatshiu and reporting to the Health Manager, the IMP Administrator is responsible for assisting in the development and management of community-based midwifery education and the integration of midwifery into the existing healthcare services, currently available in Labrador Innu communities.
