Salary:

Are you a detail-oriented financial expert with a strong understanding of Canadian tax planning, trust reporting, and multi-entity coordination? JoinThe M Group as an Accounting and Tax Consultant and support the financial operations of a high-integrity, multi-entity family office.

In this role, youll work directly with the principal to support financial oversight, reporting, and compliance for family trusts, investment properties, corporations, and charitable foundations. This role is great for someone who wants to work part-time with a flexible working arrangement.

Key Highlights:

  • Oversee tax and financial reporting for multiple trusts and corporations
  • Partner with internal teams and external advisors to ensure compliance
  • Lead CRA audits, reconciliations, intercompany balances, and working paper files
  • Work closely with the principal on cash flow strategy and budget reviews

Key Responsibilities:

Daily or As Needed

  • Prepare payments, receipts, and transaction recording.
  • Review financial documents and provide guidance to ownership for new investment purchases and reporting.
  • Respond to information requests from the Owner and external tax advisors.
  • Monitor cash flow, advise on covering shortfalls, and fund transfers.
  • Manage CRA audits, assessments, and filing deadlines for owner entities.
  • Work with third party for filing of CRA.
  • Provide guidance and financial clarity to support current and future investments.

Monthly

  • Prepare financial statements and reconciliations for all owner accounts, Support sign-off processes and ensure accuracy of distributions and shareholder accounts.
  • Identify required adjustments and complete in timely completion.
  • Distribute finalized monthly/quarterly reports to Ownership and ensure external corporate statements are sent to stakeholders.
  • Calculate and reconcile intercompany balances and interest owed.
  • Track charitable donations and reconcile receipts for personal and foundation donations.

Annually

  • Lead year-end tax planning and prepare for the next fiscal year.
  • Review budget processes.
  • Maintain and update ACB schedules for real estate and investment entities.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and filing of T5s, T3s, and trust returns.
  • Draft working paper files for family trusts, corporations, and personal returns.
  • Coordinate with outside accountants for deadlines and filing compliance.
  • Prepare budges for the family entities.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge in Working paper, and excel.
  • 5+ years in a similar role; experience with trusts and real estate entities preferred
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Familiarity with Yardi software an asset
  • CPA or equivalent experience in tax and financial consulting
    This is a part-time position requiring 24 hours per week. Additional hours may be required during tax filing season (March to June).
    A hybrid work arrangement is available; however, some in-office presence in Barrie is required.
